There’s nothing like trade show season, the energy, the connections, the deals in motion. To keep that energy up through the last day, PRINTING United Expo Director of Exhibits Karen Kroll, CEM, offers 12 ways to take care of yourself while you’re out there.
- Eat before you’re starving. Start with breakfast and keep an easy snack or protein bar in your bag.
- Hydrate before you’re thirsty. Carry water, consider an electrolyte packet, and alternate cocktails with water.
- Wear broken-in, comfortable shoes. If fashion wins in the morning, pack backup shoes and blister bandages.
- Prepare for two climates. Bring sunscreen and lip balm for outside, and a light layer for the convention center’s Arctic setting.
- Lighten your load. You do not need your entire life in your tote. A zipped or crossbody bag is also more secure.
- Pack a small emergency kit. Include medications, pain reliever, bandages, feminine products, deodorant, mints, and a portable charger.
- Take ten minutes to reset. Sit, breathe, stretch, and regroup. Put it on your schedule if necessary.
- Protect your voice. Keep water or lozenges nearby and avoid trying to out-yell the show floor.
- Remove your badge outside Expo. It displays your name and company, so tuck it away while walking around town.
- Stay aware after hours. Keep your drink with you, verify your rideshare’s license plate, and use the buddy system. (Pro Tip: If you’re at PRINTING United Expo, Women in Print Alliance events are a great place to find others looking for group outings.)
- Remember that “no, thank you” is allowed. You do not have to attend everything. Sleep is also an onsite event.
- Ask for help before you’re overwhelmed. There are no bonus points for doing everything yourself.
