Careers move fast and print careers are no exception. Between deadlines, client demands, and the pace of running a business or managing a team, it’s easy to put off learning the details of the policies, protections, and programs available to support individual employees until the moment those resources are actually needed. By then, the learning curve is often steeper than it has to be.
That’s the idea behind the next Women in Print Alliance Quarterly Connect, a members-only educational webinar on August 27, where Adriane Harrison, VP of Human Relations at PRINTING United Alliance and a Professional Advisor to Women in Print Alliance, will walk participants through the landscape of support available to women at every stage of her career — giving them the roadmap well before they need to use it.
“Women are busy building careers and businesses, and the fine print of benefits and protections isn’t always top of mind until life brings it front and center. That’s just human nature,” said Lisbeth Lyons Black, Director of Women in Print Alliance. “Our goal with this Quarterly Connect is to get ahead of that. We want women in print to be empowered and informed so they can grow and thrive professionally.”
A Career, in Chapters
Rather than treating benefits and protections as a single checklist, the 60-minute session is framed as a journey through the chapters of a career, because, as Lyons Black notes, “What a woman needs to know about employee benefits and workplace culture at 25 looks very different at 45 or 60. Giving people the language and confidence to ask for what they need – and the knowledge of what resources are available – is valuable at any stage of a career.”
Specifically, the conversation will focus on:
- Early Career opens the conversation with the financial and health provisions that quietly compound over time. These are the decisions — often made without much fanfare — that end up shaping the trajectory of everything that follows.
- Mid-Career turns to the support systems that meet women when life gets complicated: childcare, and the protections that keep career momentum intact through major life transitions.
- Later Chapters address a topic that’s gaining visibility across every industry but still doesn’t get enough airtime anywhere: menopause-related support, and how women can advocate for what they need as their priorities shift.
Not Just for Employees — But Also For the Businesses Built by Women
The conversation isn’t limited to navigating support as an individual. Adriane will also speak directly to the women in print business owners in the room, addressing what it actually looks like to build supportive policies and workplace culture — even at a small business scale — that attracts, retains, and inspires the women driving their companies forward.
That dual focus, Lyons Black noted, is purposeful. “So many of our members are running their own shops, and they genuinely want to take care of their people. This session gives them practical, real-world ways to do that — the kind of culture-building that doesn’t necessarily require a Fortune 500 budget, just intention.”
An Interactive Session, Not a Lecture
This Quarterly Connect is designed as a dynamic, guided conversation rather than a one-way presentation. Participants can expect built-in opportunities for reflection, live chat interaction, and Q&A aimed at sparking ideas and shared learning among attendees.
